The village of Quinta do Anjo had its origins around Quinta da Fonte do Anjo, an estate offered by D. João II to one of his servants. In 1934 the farm was sold to SAPEC, whose founding partner was Antoine Velge, a Belgian industrialist, very influential in Setúbal.Legend has it that the fountain on this farm was protected by "a good angel armed with a sword, therefore Saint Michael" [sic], from attempted poisoning by evil forces, thus saving the populations that lived there.
